A Letter to a Father about delighting in the word of God

Over the past few weeks, the word delight keeps flashing in my mind. I thought to myself, why does this word keep coming to the forefront of my mind. So I decided to read scriptures that obtain the word delight. As I began to read, it never dawned on me that searching the scriptures was just what God wanted me to do, and that was to delight myself in the word of God. As I write this letter to you, I must admit I have no idea how long this letter is going to be, but I will say that there is pleasure in delighting yourself in the word of God.

The first verse that came to mind was Psalm chapter 37 verse 4 Delight thyself in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Another scripture in Psalm 37 verse 11 reads: but the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. There are more verses that I will list later in the letter but what I have noticed in reading the bible is this; once you delight yourself in the things of God, it is almost always followed by a blessing from the Lord that you SHALL have.

In Psalm chapter 112 verses 1-3: Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed. 3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth forever.

After reading Psalm Chapter 112, verses 1-3, one can see that there are blessings not only for you but also for your children and their children by fearing the Lord (reverential fear) and taking pleasure in the laws and precepts ordinances of God.

Also, I want you to see and understand that when we look at the scriptures, we will get to know God more intimately. We will understand and see that God delights in mercy, lovingkindness, judgment, righteousness, and the prosperity of his people.

Micah chapter 7 verse 18 shows us that God is a merciful God because he Delights in Mercy.

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger forever, because he delighteth in mercy.

Psalm chapter 147 verse 11 reads The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

As I end this letter, I am going to list some more scriptures as I have mentioned earlier, but I would like for you to read and meditate on all the scriptures that I have listed in this letter, but I want to end with these particular scriptures because it highlights the importance of the word of God and prayer the first scriptures are located in the book of John chapter 14 verses 21-23;

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. 22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

The following scripture is located in the book of Proverbs chapter 15 verse 8, and it reads; The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. So God delights in your prayers.
