I am writing this letter to you because I would like you to understand what we are facing as a nation. During my time of prayer, I was led to read second Timothy chapter three.
Second Timothy Chapter 3 verses 1-17 reads: This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3. Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4. Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as their’s also was. 10. But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience, 11. Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. 12. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
In second Timothy chapter three, Paul was addressing Timothy in his letter. The important thing that we as believers need to understand is that when you read the Bible, you should always read to understand and gain knowledge. Why should you read to understand and gain knowledge?, the reason is that the bible states in the latter half of Proverbs 11:9 through knowledge SHALL the just be delivered. Also, did you notice the scripture says SHALL not maybe? Another thing the word of God states in Proverbs chapter 4 verses 7: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
The first verse of second Timothy informs us of what is to come when we are in the last days. Perilous times SHALL come. I would like for you to think for just a moment. We all could agree that we are facing hard times. As you continue to read chapter three of second Timothy, we understand the behaviors and characteristics of people in the season of difficult times from verses 1-7. Then starting from verse 8, continuing to verse 9 of second Timothy chapter 3, you will see the consequences of the behaviors and actions of these people.
As you continue to read in second Timothy chapter 3, Paul is saying to the people, look, you know how I live and the things I’ve been through, and you also saw how the Lord delivered me out of everything. Paul is informing us that you WILL/SHALL suffer persecutions, but don’t worry about the persecutions you will face, but you continue in what you have learned in the holy scriptures or the word of God. As I end this letter, you must know how important it is to read and study the word of God. We should study the word of God (BIBLE) so that like the verse in Second Timothy chapter 15 says, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
