A Letter to a Father about the fear of the Lord

This letter was birth through my study of the book of Proverbs. I must say that the book of Proverbs is full of wisdom, and there were some difficult parts for me to read. The reason why some parts of the book of Proverbs were difficult for me to read is that it exposed my weakness as well as renewed my mind. I would strongly urge you to study the entire book of Proverbs; it will change your life.

In my study of the book of Proverbs, the revelation of the fear of the Lord was unveiled. I’ve discovered that not only the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, but it is also the instruction of wisdom and so much more.

In Proverbs chapter 9 verse 10, it reads: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. If you were anything like me, and when I say like me, I’m referring to being raised in the church, I can assure you that you have heard Proverbs chapter 9 verse 10 multiple times. The question I would like to ask is this? Do you know what the fear of the Lord is?

The fear of the Lord is defined in Proverbs chapter 8 verse 13, and it reads: The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. My question to you is, do you hate evil, pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and do you have a forward mouth, or are you operating in those spirits?

Proverbs chapter 1 verse 7 reads: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. In other words, Proverbs Chapter 1 verse 7 when you hate evil, pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the froward mouth that is the beginning of knowledge. I am going to go a little further in proverbs chapter 3 verses 7 through 8 it reads: Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

Allow me to continue giving you the verses from the book of proverbs. In Proverbs chapter 14 verses 26-27 it reads: In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. After reading these scriptures, I understood the importance of the fear of the Lord.

I don’t know about you, but in the current state that our nation is in, I want to be safe, and I want my children and your children to feel secure. Now I’m going to list more benefits of having a fear of the Lord and the scriptural references.

Another benefit of choosing to walk in the fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom. The benefit of the instruction of wisdom is found in Proverbs 15:33. Departure from evil is another benefit, and the scriptural reference is located in Proverbs 16:6. Also in Proverbs 22 verse 4 reads: By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honour, and life.
