A Letter to a Father about the Identity Crisis

It was a day that I needed direction for my life. I remember praying to God and asking God to let my soul know it well. I know you may be asking what is this it that you are referring to; the answer is I am fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. -Psalm 139:14.”

Psalm 139:14 was ringing loud inside of me, and I begin to express to God yes, I believe that I am fearful and wonderfully made in your image, but God, I need my soul to know it. I need my mind, will, emotions and intellect to know this. When I cried out to God for his wisdom, I must tell you he immediately answered me.

The revelation I obtain from reading God’s word in Psalm 8, and I will share Psalm 8 with you, soothe my soul instantly. I am telling you when you need clarity, God answers you. I know someone may be reading this and thinking that maybe the thing you would like clarity on is too small to ask or too big, but I am here to tell you that God is ready for you to ask for his direction, his knowledge, wisdom, and counsel.

“Psalm 8 reads O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!”

After reading Psalm 8, it was as though God was embracing me with his loving arms and telling me this is who you are. I want you always to keep Psalm 8 in your heart because this is who you are. I would like for you to pay close attention to the underlined verses above. David is expressing his love towards the Lord and informing us of our Identity in Christ Jesus. There is more as I continued to read Psalm 8, I was led to read Hebrews 2 verses 9-13.

“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. 10 For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. 11 For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. 13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. – Hebrews 2:9-13 KJV”

After reading Hebrews chapter 2, I begin to thank God for answering my prayer. The revelation of just like you, Jesus was made a little lower than the angels. The purpose of Jesus being made a little lower than angels was to die for my sins and your sins. If you continue reading the entire Hebrew chapter 2, you will see all things are under Jesus’ feet, just like us. After reading Hebrews, two everything came together. God showed me through the word of God how I was wonderfully and fearfully made in his image, and now my soul knows it very well.

As parents, leaders, mothers, fathers, or whatever the case, it is imperative that you know your Identity in Christ Jesus. You must know your identity so that we can teach our children, the future generation. We are living in a world where people are not walking in their true identity. People believe that labels or status define your identity. People also believe that the pain, hurt, and trauma that they have experienced is their identity. So many children are confused about who they are. I am here to tell you not to allow any of these things to define your identity. You are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of Christ. We must develop the kingdom mindset in the world that says our true identity is in Christ Jesus.

Prayer,

Father God, in the name of Yahweh, we thank you. We thank you for the beautiful revelation of our identity in you. God, you have made us a little lower than angels and given us dominion over all the works of your hands, and we say thank you. Father, your word says we are the light and the salt of the earth. God, we ask you to teach us how to walk in the authority you have given us. God, we want to be the light carriers and the salt to the world for your glory in the name of Yahweh. God, so many people need to know their true identity, not what someone said about them, or the lies or word curses people have spoken over them. We renounce the words spoken over our lives that were not in alignment with what you have spoken over us in the name of Yahweh. Let those words become of no effect in our lives, and we accept your truth God in the name of Yahweh. We are forgetting those things which are behind us and pressing forward and cover all of us in your blood, saturate our lives with your life-giving blood because we know nothing can come against the blood of Yahweh. I thank you, God. I honor you, God. Amen.
