A Letter to a Father about letting go of traditions

As I write this letter to you, I have to let you know the urgency of letting go of traditions. Yes, you read that right tradition. I am talking about the traditions that we as believers have been doing. I’m talking about practices past down from one generation to another that has drastically hindered your life. The traditions have made the word of God that you may have been praying of no effect, and it has to stop today. Allow me to give you the scripture in the bible that I am referring to, and the reason I am telling you this is that I want you to prosper and your family. I also want the word of God to work in your life, and I want you to fulfill the purpose that God has for your life.

In Mark chapter 7 verses 1-13 reads: “Now there gathered together to [Jesus] the Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem,2 For they had seen that some of His disciples ate with [a]common hands, that is, unwashed [with hands defiled and unhallowed, because they had not given them a [b]ceremonial washing]—3 For the Pharisees and all of the Jews do not eat unless [merely for ceremonial reasons] they wash their hands [diligently [c]up to the elbow] with clenched fist, adhering [carefully and faithfully] to the tradition of [practices and customs handed down to them by] their forefathers [to be observed].4 And [when they come] from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they purify themselves; and there are many other traditions [oral, man-made laws handed down to them, which they observe faithfully and diligently, such as], the washing of cups and wooden pitchers and widemouthed jugs and utensils of copper and [d]beds—5 And the Pharisees and scribes kept asking [Jesus], Why do Your disciples not order their way of living according to the tradition handed down by the forefathers [to be observed], but eat with hands unwashed and ceremonially not purified?6 But He said to them, Excellently and truly [[e]so that there will be no room for blame] did Isaiah prophesy of you, the pretenders and hypocrites, as it stands written: These people [constantly] honor Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far distant from Me.7 In vain (fruitlessly and without profit) do they worship Me, ordering and teaching [to be obeyed] as doctrines the commandments and precepts of men.8 You disregard and give up and ask to depart from you the commandment of God and cling to the tradition of men [keeping it carefully and faithfully].9 And He said to them, You have a fine way of rejecting [thus thwarting and nullifying and doing away with] the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition (your own human regulations)!10 For Moses said, Honor (revere with tenderness of feeling and deference) your father and your mother, and, He who curses or reviles or speaks evil of or abuses or treats improperly his father or mother, let him surely die.11 But [as for you] you say, A man is exempt if he tells [his] father or [his] mother, What you would otherwise have gained from me [everything I have that would have been of use to you] is Corban, that is, is a gift [already given as an offering to God],12 Then you no longer are permitting him to do anything for [his] father or mother [but are letting him off from helping them].13 Thus you are nullifying and making void and of no effect [the authority of] the Word of God through your tradition, which you [in turn] hand on. And many things of this kind you are doing.”

I know there is a lot of scripture that you just read, but I want you to see how the Pharisees followed their forefathers’ traditions like some of us do. What traditions? The traditional things that we do that are not in God’s word, but we do them because that is the traditional thing to do. Also, sowing into the word, there is no scriptural reference for sowing into the word now; you can sow the word as in what I am doing right now, giving you the word of God. There are things that are practiced in churches that have no scriptural reference but yet it still takes place and continue to take place because it’s accepted as a tradition. [Disclaimer: I AM NOT saying that you shouldn’t give to the church, anyone, charity and etc. as the spirit of God leads you]

What I REALLY want you to see is this read the verse 13 that is underlined. When you put traditions above the laws of God, you are NULLIFYING and making the Word of God void and no effect. I am not writing to go back and forth with anybody because I love everyone, yes, even my enemies. I am not writing because I am perfect and have crossed every T. The reason I am writing is that I want ALL of us to seek God for his ways; I would like ALL of us to fulfill the purposes and plans that God has for our lives. Hence, I know this letter may ruffle some feathers, but I must tell you what I have learned as God shines his light on the darkness of our lives.

I read the book of John Chapters 6 and 7 today, and there was so much revelation. I implore you to read John chapters 6 and 7, and I pray that as you read it, God begins to download his principles and precepts into your heart, mind, and soul and that you apply them practically. I really implore you to ask God to show you what traditions have you placed above the word of God and repent. God loves you so much.

Father God in the mighty name of Jesus. God, we repent for every single time we put traditions over your word, your laws, your precepts. Father God, we repent for every single time we did things because our elders told us to do it, but it went against your word. Father, forgive us, please. It is written in your word that if we confess our sins, you are faithful and just to forgive us, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, so please forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. God, thank you for shining your light on us. We love you and receive your forgiveness in Jesus’ name. Amen.

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
