Before I begin this letter, I would like to say Happy New Year! Welcome to a new decade.
The one thing you must know while reading this letter is this, the word of God is the Law of God.
We have natural laws that we must obey, like the Law of Gravity. Also, we have the laws of the land, laws like you go to jail if you murder someone. Then you have The Laws/Words of God.
The Laws of God are powerful that it searches your heart, and it transforms your mind, will, and emotions. You begin to think differently and see things with a new perspective a Kingdom of Heaven perspective. The Laws of God matures you, protects you and changes you from the inside out.
When you are driving down the road and you see a sign that reads a speed limit of 45 MPH. The sign is informing you that while driving on the road you must go 45 MPH because that is the speed limit. Now, the speed limit sign is not just a sign with words. The speed limit sign is a Law that you must obey. Ladies and Gentleman the word of God is the same exact way.
In Hebrews 4:12 reads: “For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.
In this particular verse it is informing us that the word of God has life and power and it exposes as well as judges our thoughts and the intent of our hearts.”
For example, in the book Matthew 5:43-48 it reads “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor (fellow man) and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for] your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may [show yourselves to] be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on those who are evil and on those who are good and makes the rain fall on the righteous [those who are morally upright] and the unrighteous [the unrepentant, those who oppose Him]. For if you love [only] those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that? And if you greet only your brothers [wishing them God’s blessing and peace], what more [than others] are you doing? Do not even the Gentiles [who do not know the Lord] do that? You, therefore, will be perfect [growing into spiritual maturity both in mind and character, actively integrating godly values into your daily life], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Again, the word of God is the Law of God. In the above verses, you can experience the power of God by choosing to obey the word of God by loving your enemy. I know that sometimes this can be a very hard task but what you gain in Christ is far greater. Also, in the above verses, you can see how the word of God exposes our thoughts and intentions of our hearts. Questions come to mind like can I love my enemy? Do I love my enemy the correct way? Or God will you teach me how to love my enemy? If you do this, the reward will be you will be perfect just like your Father (God) is perfect.
Another verse that comes to mind is found in Psalm 119:105 and it reads, your word is a lamp to my feet.
And a light to my path. In other words, your word/law leads me in the direction I should go and the paths that I must take through my obedience to your laws.
As I end this letter, I want you to know that as you read the word of God know that you are reading the laws of God. If you choose to be an active participant of the word of God, you will be blessed and favored by God according to James 1:22-25.
James 1:22-25 “But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning, contrary to the truth]. For if anyone only listens to the word without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror; for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like. But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].”
In closing, I leave you with this verse found in the book of Luke 11 verse 28.
But He said, “On the contrary, blessed (happy, favored by God) are those who hear the word of God and continually observe it.”
Father God in the name of Jesus. God, there is no rival, you are a matchless God. There is no equal. You are the highest of the highest and I praise, worship and honor you for your wisdom, knowledge and understanding that you are freely giving to us. Father, I say thank you for loving us and forgiving us. I thank you for your son Jesus our redeemer and savior. Father, teach us to obey your word. Help us to not just read your word but obey so that you can favor us and bless us. God, I ask you give us the revelation of your word daily. Father, I ask you to speak to us and tell us what’s on your heart for the nation, locally and personally. Thank you for hearing this prayer and answering this prayer in Jesus’ name. Amen.
