A Letter to a Father about the Love of Christ

As I write this letter to you, I’m writing in the state of mind of complete assurance. The complete assurance that God loves me and sent his son Jesus to die for me, but mostly that Christ loves me. As a single mother, I am reminded of my constant state of preparing not ever really living in the moment, and there are times I would stop and think to myself and say, Lord, is this why you said it is not good for man to be alone and to be completely transparent where is my husband because this is too much at times. In moments like these, I would receive an email from a teacher about my child performing well in school or receiving an award. I said all of that to say this. God is watching and he knows the desires of our hearts. As a parent, my prayer has been God help me to raise my children in the admonition of you and with loving-kindness.

There are times when I don’t feel that I’m putting my best foot forward when it comes to parenting and I would feel so down but I pushed through. Today, having been nurtured in Christ’s love for me those moments don’t happen often and when they do, I quickly speak the answer I wish to achieve in my prayer and it is like God quickly dispels those emotions of failing as a parent. What I have learned is this, your emotions will lie to you, especially when there is a behavior attached to it that you BELIEVE is unacceptable. The keyword is to BELIEVE. I want you to grasp the reality of that word. You must believe in the love of Christ.

I am writing to you about the love of Christ and his love for us is so immense that you cannot put into words. Allow me to go further. I say and pray that God gives me a husband like Christ loves the church and gave himself and wash me in the word and present me to himself without blemish. A man who loves me as he loves himself. I would laugh and joke with my friends and tell them that my husband is going to be crazy about me (a good crazy) and I am going to be crazy about him. Then one day a thought came to me, the thought was “isn’t God crazy about you” and I was lead to read Ephesians chapter 1 and as I begin to read my heart leaped I had tears in my eyes, writing this right now at this moment, brings tears to my eyes not only because God was showing me how much he loves me but it was as though he was explaining to me what I was really asking for when I said I desired someone who would love me like Christ loves the church.

In Ephesians chapter 1 verses 3 through 6 it reads: “Blessed and worthy of praise be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ, just as [in His love] He chose us in Christ [actually selected us for Himself as His own] before the foundation of the world, so that we would be holy [that is, consecrated, set apart for Him, purpose-driven] and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and good pleasure of His will— to the praise of His glorious grace and favor, which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved [His Son, Jesus Christ].”

Verses 3 through 6 speaks of God’s love for us and how he planned to make us the object of his affection and partake in the gifts he desired to give us.

If you continued reading in verses 7 through 10 : In Him we have redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding [with practical insight] He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ, with regard to the fulfillment of the times [that is, the end of history, the climax of the ages]—to bring all things together in Christ, [both] things in the heavens and things on the earth.

In verses 7 through 10 it speaks of the type of love that God has for us a love that frees us a love that is so deep and transparent. Also, a love that reveals the plans he has in mind for us. Let’s continue reading to verses 11 and 12 of Ephesians.

In Him also we have [d]received an inheritance [a destiny—we were claimed by God as His own], having been predestined (chosen, appointed beforehand) according to the purpose of Him who works everything in agreement with the counsel and design of His will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ [who first put our confidence in Him as our Lord and Savior] would exist to the praise of His glory.

Verses 11 and 12 informs us that before we even took notice of him, he noticed us and wanted us to become a part of his life and God already knew what glorious life he wanted us to have.

Finally, Ephesians chapter 1 verses 13 and 14. “In Him, you also, when you heard the word of truth, the good news of your salvation, and [as a result] believed in Him, were stamped with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit [the One promised by Christ] as owned and protected [by God]. The Spirit is the [e]guarantee [the first installment, the pledge, a foretaste] of our inheritance until the redemption of God’s own [purchased] possession [His believers], to the praise of His glory.

Verses 13 and 14 got me and got me good because it informs us that once you BELIEVE the truth of salvation and everything that God has said then you receive what you believe. It never says you feel what you believe it simply says you receive it. I now understood the TALL request that I made to God and that to fully embrace the prayer I had to know and BELIEVE the love of Christ even the more. So now my prayer is God help me to receive on the level of capacity that you wish to give.

Prayer,
