A Letter to a Father about Family

There are so many things I wish for you to see and understand. There are so many truths I wish we both had known before one single child was conceived. The truth about Proverbs 24:3-4 (NIV) that reads. “By wisdom, a house is built, and through understanding, it is established; through knowledge, its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” This scripture lets us know that to make a STRONG family you will need wisdom, knowledge, and understanding then the family will become beautiful.
I wish we knew the impact that we have on society when the family is broken. Our society is a reflection of our families. I hope that we would see the importance of transmitting values into our children, where good morals and sound teaching are taught at home so that they know how to conduct themselves in the society. In the book of Deuteronomy chapter 11 verses 18-21 (NIV), it reads. “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.” It is up to the family to cultivate the children, not the government or state.
It would also be wise to consider the role of a Father because you have the power to effect four generations. In the book of Numbers chapter 14 verse 18 it reads. “The Lord is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving wickedness and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting (avenging) the wickedness and guilt of the Father’s on the children, to the third and fourth generations.” As a Father, you can either bless your family or pass down the generational dysfunction of the household.
I will leave you with this one decree and you can find it in the book of Psalm chapter 78 verses 5-8 (NIV) it reads: “He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. They would not be like their ancestors a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.” My prayer is for you to understand the society is only as healthy as the family. Do you like the current condition of our society?
